[Isis-users] problems with special character

Helllo,

the # is only used as a separator in ISO-files, not in the ISIS MST file itself. Probably you have exported/imported your data ? ISO2709 indeed is very sensitive to any such corruption as everything is interpreted based on the length of the elements (records/fields). I have seen such databases also several times where one special character taking 2 instead of the expected 1 position shifted everything. In such cases the # comes at the position which is reported as being the first position of the next field... and therefore it is shown instead of interpreted as field separator.
Not much one can do about that, unfortunately.
But it also means there is no reason not to use the character # inside ISIS-records if you want to do that. This has no impact on the earlier mentioned problem.

Subject: [Isis-users] problems with special character

Hello

I have had a problem with one of my database (running ISIS). I have
found a broken MFN in which there is the special character "#".
I know that it is used also as record separator. Should I avoid to use
it in an entry?

Just for curiosity I have circa ten records where it is used normally.
In this case, the broken MFN, it is used as the initial character in a
field.

Thanks for any commentary.
