Subject: Re: [Isis-users] Z39.50

Hi,

The problem with the Z39.50 was in the field definition table.

In my installation importing Z39.50 records works correctly in French,
Dpanish and Portugese, but not in English. The field definition table for
the MARC database is not correct in English.
The portugese version of the FDT on field 245 is:
T|245|Título Principal|1|0|12abcfgkhnps6||X|1||||TI_|v245^a," "v245^b,`(`
f(mfn,1,0),`)`|f(mfn,1,0)||1||

The English version is:
T|245|Title statement|1|0|12abchp|TI_|v245^a," "v245^b,`(`
f(mfn,1,0),`)`|f(mfn,1,0)||||||||0||

I copied the line from the Portugese version to the Englsih version and
changed "titulo principal" to "title statement". Now the Z39.50 works
correctly.

I would suggest to correct this in version ABCD 2.0.

Kind regards,

Peter

Dear all,

I have been trying to use the Z39.50 to a MARC database, copying from the
the MARC records from the Library of Congress. Since it is MARC to MARC I
suppose I don’t need a conversion. That works well for most of the fields,
but not all.

What works (quotes added manually in this example):

The LOC record is: “010 ^altf90012179”
Translates to ABCD MARC as:” ^altf90012179”

LOC: “035 ^9(DLC)ltf90012179”
ABCD:” ^9(DLC)ltf90012179”

LOC:”040 ^aDLC^cDLC^dDLC”
ABCD:” ^aDLC^cDLC^dDLC”

LOC: “050 00^a4BL 329”
ABCD: “00^a4BL 329”

LOC:”100 1 ^aVloemans, Antoon. [from old catalog]”
ABCD:” 1 ^aVloemans, Antoon. [from old catalog]”

What does NOT work (quotes added manually in this example):
LOC:”245 04^aHet leven is heilig.”
ABCD:”04_ Het leven is heilig.”

And from another record:
LOC:”245 10^aTegen het leven is niet te strijden :^bbriefwisseling 1889-1910
/^cChristien Vierhout en Maurits Wagenvoort ; bezorgd door Rob van de
Schoor.
ABCD: “10_ Tegen het leven is niet te strijden : briefwisseling 1889-1910 /
Christien Vierhout en Maurits Wagenvoort ; bezorgd door Rob van de Schoor.”

Note that in the last two examples the ^a has been replaced by an _ and
that the subfields do not appear in the ABCD database. I don’t use a
conversion table (at least not that I’m aware of).

It looks as if field 245 is converted in some way or another, but I can’t
see how. Any suggestions?

I have tried to create a new conversion table, but I don’t now how to handle
the MARC indicators (the numbers before the subfields, for example in v245).
I triend “v245^12” but that does not display the first two charaters. Any
suggestions?

Any help is highly appreciated!

Kind regards,

Peter

Z39.50: I do not have this problem for the MARC database.
I also use a conversion table for MARC21 to local databases, and it also
works.
Which version of ABCD are you using?

Renate

Dear all,

We are working at the University of the Netherlands Antilles for the
libraries of Dutch Caribbean Library Association on setting up ABCD for a
number of libraries in the region.

In customization a number of questions arise:

- Profiles and users: we want to create profiles, which works OK. When
creating a user, we want to add more than one profile to the user (as has
been done for some existing users). Using the radio buttons, only one
profile can be attributed to the user. How can you add more profiles to a
user?

- When copying a record using Z39.50 from LOC to a MARC database, an
error occurs: the record cannot be saved. The problem is that filed 245
(title statement) is not converted correctly. After copying, field 245 is
filled with “00_Textoftitle”, it should have been: “ ^aTextoftitle”. Is
this a general problem? How to correct this?

Any suggestions?

Kind regards,

Peter Hessels, KIT
