Great Bridgette !!!!
you are going to graduate as PhD in cisis !!!
I posted yesterday a challenge, but the exercise is not only a lab
excersise but has important implications in everyday problems of control
Let me be clear with two real examples
You have pictures of your patrons, or .pdf files of full text articles
of your journal. This means thousands of digital files
Because of hard disk performance you cannot save all this stuff in
the same directory, but you have to distribute even in a set of
subdirectories.
Let's say you have ten folders named as: 0, 1, 2, .. 9
Now you save files using the last digit of the Id of the User or the
accession number of your book, whatever
Then you have two problems, real problems you can control with MX
1) how do you know the file named in the record points to the
corresponding file in the directory and vice versa
so there are no records pointing to nowhere, and there are not
orphans digital files
2) How do you know that are not misplaced files, this is, a file with
ending digit 1 is not placed in folder 8
OK; this is the kind of issues I solve everyday with MX
