About
Workshop:

Modern Libraries are facing different challenges like
electronic resource management, OPAC,
Library websites, online web based
user centric services, etc. NAAC is evaluating libraries on
their
innovative and advanced services like federated services tools of
digital resources, online
information management skill, library
websites, and active participation of library professionals,
standards
used along with traditional services. Many open source softwares are
coming up to
support library professionals. ABCD is one of most advanced
library automation cum digital
library open source software by UNESCO
and BIREME. All over world the software is being used
by different
libraries, research centers. This workshop is supported by Modal
Network
Company, Brazil, VLIR, BIREME, PAHO, WHO, Belgium. Main
objective of this workshop
is to give hands on session on its different
modules, how to create library website with this
software, its special
features and next version specialties.
Why ABCD?
ABCD is a suite of
modules for automation and document management in libraries
and
documentation centres. Unlike most 'library automation systems', it
offers support for creation
and management of any type of textual
information, with multi-media being dealt with using
the WWW-technology
on which ABCD is fully based along with the powerful ISIS
databasetechnology.
Libraries can automate their catalogs (but also
acquisition, circulation) and enduser
searching, but also provide
repositories, experts and events databases, and all this in
an
integrated environment, where one 'meta-search' action avails all
resources from one 'portal',
created by the built-in Content Management
System.

ABCD is suitable when there is a need for flexibility along
with power in documents and
information management, for smaller and
larger organizations
