[Isis-users] ABCD on Ubuntu

While waiting for the release of the newest version of ABCD, I tested
it on different Ubuntu versions because of the previous problem I
encountered in making the Secs-Web module work, and in some cases in
creating and copying new databases.

Finally, I have managed to make all the modules work in different
versions of Ubuntu Server up to the latest 12.10

For Secs-Web and all the modules to work you really have to follow the
file directory ascribed in the documentation

All the installation files, directories and sub-directories should be
inside the abcd folder

This folder (abcd) in Linux should be in small letters because this is
the way it is written in the PHP scripts and Linux is quite strict
with this; ABCD is not the same with abcd, in fact this is the primary
reason why other modules may work except Secs-Web

You can put the installation in the /home/user directory or inside
/var/www as long as everything remains inside abcd directory (with
small letters) e. g /var/www/abcd or /home/user/abcd

The confusion was brought by - the installation files when
uncompressed defaults to ABCD (all caps) directory, which doesn't
create any error in Windows environment

On my part, I made the mistake of directly putting it under the
/var/www eliminating the abcd folder. Actually, in this configuration
some of the modules worked but in some version can't create a
database, and Secs-Web module is inaccessible

Putting everything inside abcd folder eliminated my previous problems

Hopefully, this would be of use to Linux users out there who is
working on ABCD on Ubuntu server

Actually this point was already taken up in the mailing list, but it
took me a while to find because first I had to diligently search the
list and second make the necessary translation online through Google
and Babylon) because the post were in Spanish (march 2011 if I'm not
mistaken)

Moreover, I humbly suggest that the next release specially for Linux
would uncompressed by default to abcd folder

best regards,
Ramon
