There is a manual... on CISIS but mainly dealing with mx as the most important utility.

It can be downloaded from various sources.

Subject: [Isis-users] FW: MX utility query - solved

Hi everybody,

Ernesto has done it again. My problem is solved and 1 more lesson learnt from our genius :)
See solution below in his email. I love the versatility of the mx command. There should really be a manual on it.

Dear Bridgette

In first place I want to congratulate you because a database with more then 140 thousand records is really interesting
By the Way, what kind of library you manage and where is it located?

Ok, let's go to work
Out of curiosity, how do you get your hit of records, i.e. is the term 'pioj' indexed in any way?
do you extract that term using some sort of FST?

I suppose that your bool=pioj is correct, so the way to do this is:

   mx dbase bool=pioj proc='d.' copy=dbase now -all tell=1000

The way to delete the record is copying the process onto the same database, otherwise the result is only to the console, but has no effect on the master file
let's note that you cannot export records wiht a proc='d.' because you cannot create deleted records !!!

then ... please ... backup yuour database before you begin with the killing !!!

good luck

Hello all,

I have a database of 142,747 records and I want to delete all records with the term ‘pioj’ . The search from Winisis yields 59775 records so its too many to delete.
I tried the mx utility.

                  Mx dbase bool=pioj proc=’d.’

Thought it would logically delete them so I could export/import to load back the records I want to keep. The command runs but no effect when in Winisis i.e. records with the term pioj are not flagged as logically deleted.

Shed some light please. Thanks

Bridgette
