All depends on your indexing. If the index supposes that there is a subfield, the system will not find anything when it is entered without a subfield. Subfields are not necessary, but


(1) do not mix data entry with and without subfields for the same field

(2) make sure your FST for indexing is adapted to your data entry (with or without subfields)

(3) the MARC standard uses subfields for most fields (you could simplify this, but then you do not follow the standard as such - which is your choice of course, and which does not mean that you cannot exchange data with other libraries that are applying the standard to its full length)

Hola a todos
Perdonen mi ignorancia en esto del ABCD, pero tengo una duda:
He visto estos caraceres ^a, ^c, etc   en los campos de un registro
(Ej: 00^aPlantas da medicina, ^a3. ed., etc).
Cuando introduzco un nuevo registro sin anteponer uno de estos caracteres al
campo titulo por ejemplo, resulta que en la busqueda no me encuentra nada.
Mi pregunta es que si al ingresar un nuevo registro es absolutamente necesario
anteponer a cada campo uno de estos caracteres? o estoy haciendo algo mal.
Estoy trabajando en una base de datos MARC
