[Isis-users] ABCD IAH not working - most of the time

Hello ISIS world,

Since we moved our ABCD 1.4 databases and IAH from Ubuntu 16.04 to a new Ubuntu 20.04 server, a lot of IAH queries report one of these two error messages to the user:

WXIS|fatal error|unavoidable|dbxopen: DTH_.cnt (2)|
or
WXIS|fatal error|unavoidable|dbxopen: _database%nvbsbivbsbib/data/nvbsbib.xrf (2)|

The database we are querying is called "nvbsbib". Note that the string "%nvbsbivbsbib/" in the second error message seems to come from a messed-up database name.

Searching in IAH for a single word works fine, most of the time. If we then "refine the search" by adding another search word at the bottom of the screen, the second error message comes up, most of the time.

Both 32 and 64 bit versions of WXIS give these errors. Replacing Apache's module cgi.load by cgid.load has no effect.
The machine has 8 GB memory, over 1 TB free disk space, and is running 64-bit Ubuntu server 20.04 with all latest updates.
ABCD version is 1.4.
All ABCD software and databases are exact duplicates of our previous server which runs Ubuntu 16.04 and where IAH is still running fine. But Ubuntu 16.04 has run out of support.

All suggestions on fixing our IAH are most welcome!
