[Isis-users] Mis displaying French accented character in ABCD last version

Eustache,

according to the error message your configuration file (config.php) wrongly points to the path \ABCD\www\central whereas it in priciple should be \ABCD\www\htdocs\central. Please check the variables $ABCD_scripts_path and $app_path in that file.

In the distribution version of that config.php on line 52 I have :

   $ABCD_scripts_path=$ABCD_path. "www/htdocs/";  //PATH
so it includes the htdocs-part indeed.
Or did you deliberately change this ?

Dear Egbert,

I preferred installing the newer version of ABCD (downloaded from github.com) under XAMPP keeping the older I had installed under c:\abcd\). I followed installation instructions. When I start the server and enter the user ID (abcd/ adm) on the first screen then press the button Go, I get the message below.

I checked the target file in this error message, but it is at the right place. Please, could you help in solving this situation ?

Eustache,

in order for the diacritics to be displayed correctly, the encoding (for simplicity's sake let's limit to either ANSI or UTF8, whereas there are tens of other encoding schemes) of both the text-files (the .tab files in the lang-folders of ABCD) and the encoding of the browser should match.

Most ABCD .tab files from earlier versions are encoded in ANSI (or ISO-8859-1) unless one has changed these specifically to UTF8 for use in UTF8-ABCD versions.

So please check the encoding (good text-editors, i.e. not the over-simplistic Windows Notepad, have the option to show and change the encoding) of your .tab files and change.

But, potentially more importantly : the version you use is not the most recent one (version 2.2) which has much more extensive control on the encoding (amongst a lot of other features). From the URL github.com/ABCD-DEVCOM/ABCD2 you can download a ZIP which serves both Windows and Linux ABCD, simply has to be inzipped into the preferably default folders (in Windows : C:\ABCD, in Linux : /opt/ABCD) and the provided virtual-host configuration file placed into the pre-existing Apache-configuration. Since only unzipping is necessary no real installers anymore are needed.

In Windows, unlike before, we therefore expect Apache to pre-exist (like in Linux-server installations) with installation of a package like EasyPHP, WAMP or XAMPP. Each of these have their own dedicated folder for containing additional 'virtual host' files, like the ones provided for ABCD2.2 .

I suggest you try installing the indeed 'most recent' version of ABCD, if simply checking the encoding of the .tab files doesn't solve your problem with diacritics.

Dear all,

I have just installed the last version of ABCD (windows installer) and I still have problem in displaying French accented characters. Below is the general menu page. The problem was also noticed in worksheets and while display existing records. In what configuration file can I set the correct character encoding and how ?
