Dear colleagues and friends of the community,
Many of us in this group have worked with CDS/ISIS for decades, witnessing
its incredible resilience, flexibility, and adaptability over the years.
Today, I am very proud to announce a major milestone in that ongoing
journey: the official release of ABCD v4.0.0.
This update represents a historic architectural leap for the software. We
are transitioning ABCD from a traditional *Integrated Library System (ILS)*
into a modern, highly interoperable *Library Services Platform (LSP)*.
Here are some of the major improvements introduced in this new version:
Modular Plugin Architecture: The core system is now much lighter. Specific
legacy modules (such as ODDS or SIP2) are no longer bundled by default and
can be installed on-demand via our new plugin manager.
*Native REST API & Interoperability*: We have implemented a secure REST API
for direct database access, along with a new batch JSON export workflow
featuring native mapping to Dublin Core.
*Museum Management (SPECTRUM)*: We are expanding our horizons with a new
data model and OPAC display formats designed specifically for museum
collections, strictly based on the international SPECTRUM standard.
*Enhanced OPAC*: A revamped public catalog featuring an Expert Boolean
Search, configurable relevance ranking, and optimized performance for large
datasets.
*LanguageManager*: A smart, cascading translation system that isolates and
protects your institution's local customizations so they are never lost
during future updates.
ABCD v4 is no longer just an integrated system; it is a broader, connected
ecosystem tailored for the complexities of modern Information Science.

Thank you all for your continued dedication to this technology. We look
forward to hearing your thoughts and feedback on this new chapter!
Best regards,
