<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial>first of all I would like to thank you and all
the Isis-users group for your kindness and valuable help. This is indeed a
very special community and it is really wonderful to have so many friends
all around the world!</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial>(Maria Mercedes I cannot send mail to your
email address - I get a NDR message: can you please check your

<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial>The CDS-ISIS/WinIsis database "TECA" is the
main one in use in many italian libraries (and it is created and supported
by DBA, the italian official ISIS distributor). The FDT is a bit complex:
the first 8 fields (+subfields) match with the 8 international ISBD (M)
areas. The other fields are added to complete the bibliographic description
- and for other reasons. Many fields are repeatable.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial>The formatting language used to manage
repeatable fields is the standard 'CDS-ISIS' one, based -if
needed- on the use of the repeatable literals, enclosed in vertical
bars (|), eventually preceded or followed by a '+' sign ( +|xxx|) or
(|xxx|+).</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial>In the standard pft formats we never use to
select a single occurrence of a subfield of a given field (e.g.
V12^a[1]), because usually all the occurrences are
displayed.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial>In a multi-volume book we use a "one-to-many"
description, based on field 27 (in the first level description it is the
link to all second level descriptions - a repeatable field) and on field 28
(in the second level descriptions, linking back to the main one).
</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial>In PFT formats the REF (L...) function is used
to display:</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial>- "all" the second level (=parts)
descriptions Part.1 AND Part.2 And...(when displaying the main record, or
searching a term contained in the main
description), </FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial>or:</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial>- the main record description and "only"
the single selected second level description Part.1 OR Part.2 OR
....(when displaying the result of a query of a term contained only in
a single second level description of the main one). </FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial>Actually the main problems importing into JISIS
are:</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial>1. when a single subfield of a field is
repeated (using the '%' mark), the JISIS import wizard cuts the first part
of the field (e.g V1 contains: ^axxx^byyy^czzz%^bwww^cttt ; in that
case all ^axxx^byyy^czzz is missing - in the database(!), not only in the
display format). On the other hand, it seems that if you repeat a whole
field from the beginning, the import is OK (e.g. V12 is:
^axxx^byyy%^awww^bzzz - all the subfields are imported correctly). (The
import into the old CDS-ISIS or WinIsis worked well in both
cases)</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial>2. in the pft format the REF function is
not working well; I tried also REF(L('Z=',V27)) - sometimes it displays only
the first occurrence in V27</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial>I attach the field def. table TECA.FDT and the
fst TECA.FST and </FONT>I attach also the standard TECA.pft , the most
complete (and complex!) display format in "TECA"
database.</FONT></DIV></DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial>Tomorrow I'll try to select and send you the
*.iso export of some records showing these problems during the import
process.</FONT></DIV>

<DIV>Could you please explain how you use repeatable subfields in

<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial>Hi Jean-Claude</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial>many thanks -again- for your
reply.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial>As for repeatable fields, you are
certainly right: but the fact is that, for some reason, we and
many other users here used to insert the % mark every time they needed
to repeat the same field, or the same subfield delimiter, or a
previous subfield delimiter (or a sequence of previous subfield
delimiters) in a specific field. I think it was on the basis of a
"hint" on pag. 92 of the old "Mini-micro CDS/ISIS Reference
manual Version 2.3" by Giampaolo Del Bigio - (1989).</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial>Anyway, I tried to change the data
removing the % mark in a limited number of records in the Title field,
and the import seems now to work correctly. I'll make some test again
to be sure that a sort of global change deleting all the % marks in
