<p style="margin-bottom:0in; line-height:100%"><span style="font-size:11pt">As a small (well, not so small in fact) birthday gift to the ABCD community, we are proud to announce the upcoming availability of a completely new OPAC-module by G. Ascencio for the
now 10-year old ABCD.</span></p>

<p style="margin-bottom:0in; line-height:100%"><span style="font-size:11pt">Since ABCD is a ‘suite’ of relatively independent but collaborating modules (Central, Site, iAH, Secs-Web, EmpWeb), this new module can be added with or without removing the iAH-OPAC.
IAH is somewhat different in having been completely scripted in IsisScript, which makes it rather difficult to manipulate : the support for IsisScript has been absent since some years due to BIREME, the original institutional author also of iAH, no longer
working on it and the documentation being quite scarce.</span></p>

<p style="margin-bottom:0in; line-height:100%"><span style="font-size:11pt">The new OPAC however is completely developed in PHP (as are the other modules except EmpWeb), making it more practical to maintain and add more advanced elements.</span></p>

<span style="font-size:11pt">Dado que ABCD es un "conjunto" de módulos relativamente independientes pero colaborativos (Central, Site, iAH, Secs-Web, EmpWeb), este nuevo módulo se puede agregar con o sin eliminar el iAH-OPAC y Site MetaSearch. IAH es algo diferente
en haber sido completamente escrito en IsisScript, lo que hace que sea bastante difícil de manipular: el soporte para IsisScript ha estado ausente desde hace algunos años debido a BIREME, el autor institucional original también de iAH, no mas trabajando en
él y la documentación siendo bastante escaso.</span><br>
<span style="font-size:11pt">Sin embargo, el nuevo OPAC está completamente desarrollado en PHP (al igual que los otros módulos, excepto EmpWeb), lo que hace que sea más práctico mantener y agregar elementos más avanzados.</span><br>

<span style="font-size:11pt">Las siguientes características principales estarán presentes en el módulo ABCD-OPAC:</span><br>
<span style="font-size:11pt">• multilingüe con la posibilidad de agregar cualquier idioma</span><br>

<span style="font-size:11pt">• responsive (automaticamente ajustandose, por ejemplo, para pantallas móviles)</span><br>
<span style="font-size:11pt">• metabúsqueda en varias bases de datos de estructuras posiblemente diferentes es la búsqueda predeterminada, a menos que se seleccione un catálogo específico (o base de datos); esto significa que la parte ABCD Site Metasearch puede
omitirse del sistema junto con iAH; los índices de búsqueda están "federados" sobre las bases de datos incluidas.</span><br>
<span style="font-size:11pt">• 2 interfaces de búsqueda: simple y avanzada; la búsqueda simple como en iAH recupera todos los registros en los que las claves de búsqueda están presentes en uno de los campos incluidos en la búsqueda simple, mientras que la búsqueda

<span style="font-size:11pt">Este nuevo software estará disponible en español e inglés para probarlo a fines de este mes para usuarios seleccionados; la comunidad necesitará desarrollar más versiones de idiomas utilizando las instrucciones multilingües disponibles.</span><br>

<span style="font-size:11pt">Más buenas noticias: se hará un esfuerzo concentrado para coordinar la versión 1.6 de ABCD con la versión 2.1 en una nueva versión 2.2, combinando todas las características de ambas generaciones y, por supuesto, el nuevo OPAC. Resultados
