Dear colleagues and friends of the community,<br>
<br>
Many of us in this group have worked with CDS/ISIS for decades, witnessing<br>
its incredible resilience, flexibility, and adaptability over the years.<br>
Today, I am very proud to announce a major milestone in that ongoing<br>
journey: the official release of ABCD v4.0.0.<br>
<br>
This update represents a historic architectural leap for the software. We<br>
are transitioning ABCD from a traditional *Integrated Library System (ILS)*<br>
into a modern, highly interoperable *Library Services Platform (LSP)*.<br>
<br>
Here are some of the major improvements introduced in this new version:<br>
<br>
Modular Plugin Architecture: The core system is now much lighter. Specific<br>
legacy modules (such as ODDS or SIP2) are no longer bundled by default and<br>
can be installed on-demand via our new plugin manager.<br>
<br>
*Native REST API & Interoperability*: We have implemented a secure REST API<br>
for direct database access, along with a new batch JSON export workflow<br>
featuring native mapping to Dublin Core.<br>
<br>
*Museum Management (SPECTRUM)*: We are expanding our horizons with a new<br>
data model and OPAC display formats designed specifically for museum<br>
collections, strictly based on the international SPECTRUM standard.<br>
<br>
*Enhanced OPAC*: A revamped public catalog featuring an Expert Boolean<br>
Search, configurable relevance ranking, and optimized performance for large<br>
datasets.<br>
<br>
*LanguageManager*: A smart, cascading translation system that isolates and<br>
protects your institution's local customizations so they are never lost<br>
during future updates.<br>
<br>
ABCD v4 is no longer just an integrated system; it is a broader, connected<br>
ecosystem tailored for the complexities of modern Information Science.<br>
