[Isis-users] MARC - worksheet field 8

Peter, and all other English-language ABCD-users,

the problem of a subfielded field not showing the subfields in its separate editing window (when clicking on the +-sign in front of the field in the worksheet), is mostly related to one of the tables required not existing.
E.g. in the case of the English MARC structure, I noted several problems with filenames like :
form-item.tab
gov-pub.tab
which should actually be :
form_item.tab
gov_pub.tab
so underscores instead of hyphens.
This is what was wrong in some English versions distributed. Understandable if you realize that there are no less than 153 such files in each of the languages...

A correct list of required tables is :
008_06.tab
countries.tab
bk_18-21.tab
audience.tab
form-item.tab
nature_contents.tab
gov_pub.tab
conference.tab
festschrift.tab
index.tab
bk_33.tab
bk_34.tab
languages.tab
008_38.tab
008_39.tab
So please make sure you have all those tables as required with correct names.

Whenever one of these is missing (e.g. simply missing or wrong name), the subfielded display will not work.
This is, as I wrote before, where I hope ABCD-coding can be made a bit more fool-proof, by not dropping the whole worksheet when just a table is missing.

I've got it working. After checking there is also a problem with the vm_8.fdt and the mp_8.fdt giving an error in the English version. I can't see what is wrong with these files.

I am not so much of an MARC expert, but I can edit field 8 only on creating a record, not when editing. Is that by design?

@Edwin I will send you the fields next week; I got the fields in print but this week I don't have access to a scanner. I am happy to collaborate with you.

I think an error has sneeked in into the .fdt files for the English version due to some problem in the FDT-editor. The Spanish version works well.
The English version of bk_8.fdt has two pipes at the end of each line (field), one too many. The parser for FDT-files is very sensitive to any such errors - we might have to try to improve on this - and I think that is why the subfields of v8 are not shown correctly when clicking on the '+'-sign to invoke the separate editor window for v8.

Here is a correct version of the bk_8.fdt file (copy and paste) :

I'm just workink for the simplification of the worksheets for version 2, based in the fields and subfields most used in Brazil. If you have a statistic of the most used fields and subfilelds in your country, I would like to receive it.

Dear all,

We are working at the University of the Netherlands Antilles for the libraries of Dutch Caribbean Library Association on setting up ABCD for a number of libraries in the region.
The libraries will be using the MARC databases structure. Two questions come up:

1)    When editing or creating a MARC record, the worksheet for field 8 ("fixed length") does not come up. It gives the message "language material. (a) bk_8.fdt". I have checked the file structure and could see that the file bk_8.fdt is in the file system (in www/bases/marc/def/en). When I open this file in an editor it looks OK to me. What could be wrong?

2)    I want to create a simplified worksheet, having the most common fields on top, the least used fields in a "collapsible" area under these fields. What are the steps to do this?

Any suggestions?

Dear all,

We are working at the University of the Netherlands Antilles for the libraries of Dutch Caribbean Library Association on setting up ABCD for a number of libraries in the region.
In customization a number of questions arise:

-      Profiles and users: we want to create profiles, which works OK. When creating a user, we want to add more than one profile to the user (as has been done for some existing users). Using the radio buttons, only one profile can be attributed to the user. How can you add more profiles to a user?

-      When copying a record using Z39.50 from LOC to a MARC database, an error occurs: the record cannot be saved. The problem is that filed 245 (title statement) is not converted correctly. After copying, field 245 is filled with "00_Textoftitle", it should have been: "  ^aTextoftitle". Is this a general problem? How to correct this?
Any suggestions?
